Here is a paraphrased transcript of a recent conversation I had with a very nice woman who I see at the gym sometimes on Saturdays and Sundays.
While I don’t know her name, she teaches Spanish at a prestigious local school and is also a real estate agent. It was nice to let her know that hydrogen cars will be here in large numbers soon.
Woman: So where do you work?
Me: Actually, my Dad and I have an alternative energy company.
Woman: What type of alternative energy?
Me: The company has a hydrogen pipeline technology. Basically, affordable hydrogen fuel cell cars will be arriving at dealerships in 2015. While most hydrogen right now is produced from natural gas, hydrogen pipelines will be needed in the future to distribute hydrogen produced from wind power in the Great Plains region or solar power in the Southwest.
Woman: Wow, that’s really interesting!
Me: Just out of curiosity, had you heard of hydrogen fuel cell cars before? I always like to find out how much people know about them.
Woman: Oh, yes, I had heard about hydrogen cars since I live near Oak Ridge (which has a lot of scientists that work at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory). But I didn’t know they would be ready by 2015. I thought hydrogen cars were the stuff of science fiction.
