Tatsuaki Yokoyama from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America gave the following presentation titled “Progress and Challenges for TOYOTA’s Fuel Cell Vehicle Development” at the California Air Resources Board’s ZEV Technology Symposium on September 21st.

On slide 10 of the presentation, the cold start and driving capability is shown in the chart. It shows that Toyota hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can now operate in temperatures as low as minus 37 degrees Celsius (minus 35 degrees Fahrenheit).

Furthermore, the following excerpt is on slide 10 below the chart:

“Cold start and driving performance of the TOYOTA FCHV-adv was verified to be equivalent to gasoline-ICE vehicles.”

The previous low of minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit) was announced in June 2008 when the Toyota FCHV-adv hydrogen fuel cell vehicle was released.
