GM announces Hawaii hydrogen fueling station pilot program

by Greg Blencoe on June 1, 2010

On May 11th, GM announced a hydrogen fueling station pilot program in Hawaii with The Gas Company which is a local gas provider.

Charles Freese from GM mentions in the press release that:

“The Hawaii infrastructure could eventually support tens of thousands of fuel cell vehicles.”

Furthermore, the location of the pilot program is being called “ideal”, because the GM hydrogen fuel cell vehicles would always be within 10 miles of a hydrogen fueling station.

AutoblogGreen reported that the plan is for 20-25 hydrogen fueling stations to be built on the island of Oahu.

GM has already spent more than $1.5 billion on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the past 15 years.  And the first GM hydrogen fuel cell vehicles could arrive at dealerships in 2015.

Hopefully Barack Obama is paying attention to what is happening with hydrogen fuel cell cars in his home state!
